Hello New Year!

Welcome to my blog! I’m Erica Mae. I’m a wife, mom of two beautiful and wildly energetic kids (2 and 6), daughter, sister, and friend. My goal as an author is to bring more love into the world, one book at a time.

When trying to decide what to write for my very first blog post, I scribbled a number of ideas, but in the end, I realized it was simple—I needed to start at the beginning. Not 1983 (yes, I’m nearing 40 and I’m okay with that…kind of!) when I was born alongside my identical twin sister, but the day I decided I was going to be an author, regardless of what challenges came my way.

Eighteen months ago, I thought my writing career was over. My husband had a horrible accident that resulted in severe brain damage and he’s still recovering. COVID was in full force. I still had to work full time, take care of two young children, and be a caretaker for my husband. I stopped writing for months due to stress, anger and exhaustion. And then, one night while my children and husband slept, I picked up a pen and notebook, and began writing. I wrote about how I felt, what I was going through, and let the words flow. It was liberating! Sure, I was completely exhausted and running on fumes, but it was a start. And I realized I still wanted to write. My writing time may have been limited (and let’s be honest, it still is), but I could still write. And what’s more, I still loved writing. I decided then and there that no matter how hard it would be, I would keep pursuing my dream of becoming a successful, published author.

It’s been a journey, but in the last eighteen months, I’ve written a romcom that will be published this fall by The Wild Rose Press (yay!), written the first book as well as half of the second book in my newest contemporary romance series, revised and overhauled another book in my portfolio, written the first draft of a memoir, and a handful of children’s books. This was by no means easy and accomplished by burning the midnight oil while my family slept, as well as taking a day or two off to write, and carrying my notebook with me to jot down ideas, inspiration, and scenes.

In this New Year, I can’t wait to accomplish my writing and personal goals. And I encourage you to start. Start right now. Start this minute. Start today toward reaching your dreams. I am. And I will be cheering right alongside you!

With love,

Erica Mae
