Summer Inspiration

Happy Summer Friends and Family!

Summer is in full bloom, and I hope you’re enjoying all this season has to offer! My family and I took a three-day trip to the beach to rejuvenate and relax a few weeks ago, and it was the perfect mini retreat. There’s nothing like digging your feet into the warm sand and breathing in the salty air with the wind teasing your hair and happy squeals of children playing.

Salt, sand, sea, and family.

Simply amazing.

Although we were blessed with sunshine, the overcast mornings were perfect for my husband to join us for a few hours before returning to the hotel for rest. I’m so thankful for the time with my little family.

I also brought a book with me—the second book in my Scottish Stars series. I finished a final proofread (there’s always a typo that sneaks in!) of this witty, opposites-attract love story about the risks and rewards of taking chances, and it’s going to my editor at The Wild Rose Press next Monday. It was so much fun diving back into this story to see how the characters from the first book have grown and journeying with the new main characters—Andrea and Rory—as they grow and discover love. I wrote the initial draft of this book almost two years ago and am so happy with the final product. I know you’ll love it, too!

The vibrant sun has given me a renewed energy, and I’ve found myself jotting down notes for forthcoming books and diving back into my current Work in Progresses (WIPs) with even more enthusiasm. Right now, while I eagerly await THE STARS OF SCOTLAND’s publication this fall, I’m performing a full edit of my memoir and completing the first draft of book three of the Scottish Stars series, including adding 15,000 words.

I love this series. I love escaping to Scotland while I write, I love the varied, diverse cast of characters, and I love journeying with the characters as they find love. I can’t wait for you to read this swoony romance series.

Until then, here’s a little snippet from The STARS OF SCOTLAND. I hope you enjoy it.

Bryce stared into gypsy green eyes with flecks of amber, reminding him of the Scottish Highlands in spring. As the weather warmed and the snow melted, hills burst into color invigorating the dew-soaked grass with fierce potency, while the sun’s rays etched golden blades like embers.

“Sorry for running into you.”

Her smooth voice drew him out of his thoughts, and he cleared his throat. “’Tis I who should be apologizing. Em, sorry, I don’t believe I got yer name.”

“Brielle, Brie.”

“Brie.” A smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “Bryce, pleasure to meet ye.”

“You, too.” She smoothed her blouse down. “Are you Scottish?”

“I em.”

Her cheeks tinged a rosy pink.

Yer American then?”

“Yes. From Los Angeles.”

He’d only just returned from Los Angeles where fans identified him easily enough, swarming for selfies. The paparazzi snapped pictures during his every move, though they didn’t find him in the hills—his sanctuary. He’d hiked past sandal-wearing enthusiasts until he disappeared up the trail where orange-and-yellow-flamed flora, brush, and pine welcomed him with natural, earthy aromas. At the top, he’d taken his own selfie. Yet, Brie didn’t recognize him. Ach, it was a strike to his ego, for sure, but also alluring. Someone who didn’t have preconceived notions about him, someone who was equally as mysterious as he…

Until next time, I send you love.
